How the digital world affects print

As we enter a more and more digital world with exclusive digital experiences, we often wonder: what does print contribute to that?

Introduction

As we enter a more and more digital world with exclusive digital experiences, we often wonder: what does print contribute to that? How does the printing industry confront all the different challenges that are existing due to the innovation of technology? Nowadays, it is at the same time more practical along with being more sustainable to use digital as the main tool of communication. There is a rise in this digital phenomenon that can be perceived as negative for some industries, but in this blog, we will be covering the negative and the positive aspects of digital printing. Imprimerie du Marais manages to go above and beyond as there is a mix of innovation and authenticity, and the difficulties are surpassed with the help of our rebranding and an understanding of our clients’ desires.

What is digital printing, and why does it matter?

Digital printing was created in 1991 when the world was evolving into a new era of technologies and digital experiences. It then transformed into a whole new experience and starting from there, print companies including us had to re-establish themselves in order to stay in the competition. People nowadays download files and prints from their computers, read books off their phones, and even check the daily news on certain apps. Everything can be digital – why would they go back to printing, such as magazines, books, written letters…? Well, print has a certain delicacy and sensitivity that some still admire. Successful brands often carry a history and that includes the importance of telling that story; nothing better than to have it on beautiful paper, with a quality that only represents the know-how and approach/culture/vision of that brand. Imprimerie du Marais wishes to inspire that desire for quality papers and expressing identities through feel and vision.

How to stay present in the digital world?

Imprimerie du Marais blends innovation and craftsmanship in order to produce the most creative prints for the “world’s most prestigious clients and brands”. We have managed to make prints something that stays in time, a momentum, with all the techniques, methods and ideas that we have, we are able to make each print unique. By pushing our complexity and the specificity of our craftsmen, the know-how of print is elevated and can attain levels such as jewellery, gastronomy and even high fashion. As we were re-establishing ourselves from this important impact of the digital world, there was a discussion with our teams in Paris, along with the team in London, about imagining a new(er) identity for our company, with a coherent continuation to better reflect the quality, future ambitions and stature of our Parisian print house.

"WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE MANY ASPECTS OF OUR LIVES ARE IMPERMANENT, {...}. AND THIS IS WHERE PRINT MAKES ITS ENTRANCE."

How the digital revolution impacted print?

The way in which we perceive print has changed and evolved a lot in the last 575 years. This digital revolution which first appeared as a threat has in fact changed the necessity for print, in a positive way. The print has become premium again, it began to regain its standing as a precious and rarefied medium. Print is classy, glamorous and unique. The digital involvements have actually changed the way print looks; print is now used for more lasting and meaningful communications, and that rises more and more each year. Print provides something that digital could never, and even though we might use more digital (prints) on a daily basis, print is something that on occasions is more thoughtful and important. We live in a world where a lot of aspects in our lives are impermanent, brands and people that are part of them try to stand out and be more lasting, and it is at that moment that print makes its entry (once again). Print is perceived as a new marketing tool, there to add value to a brand. We have surpassed the different challenges of this newly developed world by spreading awareness for the importance of print, the professionalism of our craftsmen along with the image that we have been able to establish. Print symbolises so many things, and we are looking forward to all these different opportunities.

A Parisian accent

Mélody Maby, Marketing Director at Imprimerie du Marais has shared the vision of her company and its future objectives: look for innovation while preserving that Parisian accent and heritage. Digital print has been a challenge to surpass, and in the end, it gave our legacy and profession a more distinguished notoriety. Print is unique, print is forever, and Imprimerie du Marais is engaged in telling that forever.

DIGITAL PRINTING HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE AND, IN THE END, IT HAS GIVEN OUR HERITAGE AND OUR PROFESSION A MORE DISTINGUISHED, TIMELESS NOTORIETY.
